My recent trip to Saskatoon demonstrated that CREW chapters come in all sizes and shapes, but the singular characteristic they all possess is their fierce commitment to create community in their market for women and those who support advancing women in commercial real estate. The newly minted chapter launched in 2016 and continues to find support in the Saskatoon market.

During my meeting with the CREW Saskatoon leadership, we had the opportunity to strategize about ways to build awareness for the chapter and increase membership. Led by President Kimberly Maber, the chapter board has engaged members through committee participation and monthly programs.
Following the board meeting, the chapter hosted a luncheon program at a member’s office that featured rooftop amenity space overlooking the city. Saskatoon lays gently on both sides of the Saskatoon River and it was valuable to see the city from that vantage point. The event was fully attended by members and we had terrific conversation about the ways companies can boost their bottom lines through culture, equal opportunities and parity for women.

Following the luncheon, Kimberly gave me a tour of the city. It’s a quaint and lovely old Canadian town with vibrant waterfront development going up. They’ve enhanced their community by creating a path along the river for walking, running or biking, with playgrounds, parks and spectacular views along the way. It is a city that has integrated nature into community.
For me, understanding the local market helps me understand the CREW chapter. And this chapter is dedicated, talented and integrated into the community as well.
I left Saskatoon inspired by the possibilities for the chapter’s future and amazed at the leaders who are shaping this chapter to be a small, but mighty force in their market. With their enthusiasm and can do attitude, I know we will see this chapter continue to grow.
