LAWRENCE, Kan. – Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW) Network has added two chapters – one in Oklahoma City in the Midwest U.S. and the other in Saskatoon, the largest city in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan. The addition of the Oklahoma City and Saskatoon chapters expands CREW Network’s presence to 74 markets and nearly 10,000 total members worldwide.
Delegates representing CREW Network chapters unanimously voted to add CREW-OKC and CREW Saskatoon Network Inc. on June 17 at the CREW Network Spring Leadership Summit in Detroit, and the two new chapters were officially affiliated on July 1. The newly-formed chapters will promote business opportunities for women in the field of commercial real estate and provide a communication network in their respective markets and worldwide.
Julie Kriegel, a vice president at Wiggin Properties LLC, and Sally Hasenfratz, a real estate attorney and director of the Phillips Murrah law firm, co-founded the Oklahoma City chapter. Kriegel and Hasenfratz had been members-at-large of CREW Network for some time before deciding last year to start a local group. They identified and recruited 10 additional women for CREW-OKC’s board of directors – each representing a different area of commercial real estate and each a leader in her field. CREW-OKC was incorporated in March 2016, and a kick-off recruitment event was held in April. Chapter membership now stands at 58.
"Sally and I spent most of last summer and the fall taking prospective board members to lunch and recruiting all of them, so we have this terrific board of directors,” said Kriegel, CREW-OKC President. "We are now connected to 10,000 people across the U.S. and Canada. We've expanded our resources to include professionals all over, and more importantly, we are their experts now for commercial real estate in Oklahoma — and that's a big deal."
In the fall of 2014, two CREW Network members-at-large in Saskatoon were invited to CREW Edmonton's annual dinner, which later ignited the idea of CREW in Saskatoon. Five women were recruited to serve on the board, and CREW Saskatoon incorporated in January 2016. Recruitment events have occurred monthly since January, and membership is currently at 32.
“I am proud to have worked over the past year with six other founding women to create CREW Saskatoon Network Inc.,” said Kimberly Maber, CREW Saskatoon Network Inc. President. “The advantage of being a part of CREW Network is that it is an organization that brings together several commercial real estate disciplines where members can find referrals, ask questions and advance the achievements of women in real estate. Commercial real estate is largely male-dominated so the idea to bring together an established network of women that specialize in commercial real estate was positively accepted. I look forward to working with this group of women and having a positive influence in the commercial real estate world.”
