Gillian Lawrence is the General Manager of Land Development at Remington Development Corporation, a privately owned full service development company headquartered in Calgary, Canada. A leader in land and building development, Remington has designed and built over 150 projects since 1994. From industrial and office projects to design build and retail, Remington has worked with small businesses and Fortune 500 companies. It is also recognized for its expertise in brownfield and mixed-use development.
Gillian joined the company in September 2006 as the Director of Planning and was promoted to General Manager of Land Development in 2013. Gillian’s key responsibilities include due diligence, concept planning, government and industry relations and negotiations, and oversight of land use, subdivision and engineering design approvals for Remington’s real estate development projects. For over a decade, Gillian has worked on Remington’s Quarry Park development, a former gravel pit which is now a highly acclaimed 380 acre mixed-use community in Calgary. She has also worked on other industrial and commercial projects in Calgary, Edmonton and other Alberta jurisdictions.
Gillian holds a BA (Hon) from the University of Calgary and an MSc in Planning from the University of Toronto.
A member of CREW Calgary since 2006, Gillian is a past Education and Events Committee Chair, Secretary and President of her local chapter. Gillian was a presenter on mixed-use development at the 2015 CREW Network Convention and was a mentor during the inaugural Certificate in Leadership program in 2016. Gillian proudly served on CREW Network International Board of Directors. In December 2020, Gillian was honoured to receive CREW Calgary’s inaugural Tribute award for her leadership in the industry. She currently serves as CREW Calgary’s Chapter Champion for CREW Network Foundation and is a member of CREW Calgary’s Mentorship Committee.
Gillian is an active community volunteer. In 2010 the Calgary Herald acknowledged her as one of Calgary’s 20 Compelling Calgarians. She is past Board member with the Norfolk Housing Society and the Wordfest International Writers Festival and past Chair of the Famous 5 Foundation, a Canadian organization dedicated to achieving gender equality and celebrating women's successes. Currently, Gillian is a past member of BILD Calgary's Planning Committee and currently serves on BILD’s Board of Directors. She also sits on numerous Industry/City committees including the City of Calgary’s Developer Advisory Group. Gillian received BILD Calgary Region's 2017 Volunteer Service Award. Gillian is also a member of the International Women's Forum (IWF), which is a global organization for women leaders.
Gillian is married and enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is an avid reader, urban gardener, patron of the arts and world traveler.
